I wrote this page back around 95-96 when the world of Window Managers on Linux was a dramatically different place. At the time, Afterstep was a Nextish hack the then ubiquotous FVWM window manager. I spent a lot of time monkeying around in Afterstep. I coded a variety of hackish little applications, designed numerous themes, and even submitted a variety of patches. I leave this page up mostly for nostalgia reasons. Enjoy it.
Afterstep is the best Window Manager out. I love this thing. There are some pretty nice looking WM's out there, but nothing compares to Afterstep. Out of the tar.gz it looks great, add an artistic flare, and you have something truly fantastic. I use it under Linux, and under SunOS as well. It truly is a joy.
My Screenshots
My latest desktop features my Cool Titlebars Patch 2 which adds XPM background for root menus, and fixes a few annoying bugs that Afterstep 1.0 still had in the window control bar. Here is the steprc for this config.
Also, Behold my previous desktop in all its wonder. In case you're curious, I have also provided My .steprc for this configuration. Click on the preview for a 1280x1024 jpeg (300k).
My Afterstep Textures & Icons
Here is a smattering of some of the images I've used in the above screenshots

Use these for whatever you want- but if you redistribute them, in any way, including screenshots, include a link back to my homepage and credit me please.
A lot of you guys are asking about my Netscape background textures. Well, Netscape 3 or 4 for linux can have XPM backgrounds- all ya gotta do is throw it in the .Xdefaults file. I've got my .Xdefaults file here so everyone can stop e-mailing me.
The notable applications you see in my screen shot include Per Liden's Fabulous little applet known as ASMail. Thats the biff replacement for us lucky afterstep users.
And if you enjoy using Afterstep, you should mosey on over and take a look at My Stuff for a collection of cool Wharf Applets like ascd and asmixer.
You can always find the latest Afterstep stuff at ftp.afterstep.org or Afterstep.org
And thanks to Marco van Hylckama Vlieg for the cool logo up top... check out his site at http://globalonline.org/~fatal/afterstep/.
